If you’re suffering from debilitating sciatica, you’ll be happy to know that chiropractic can help, says Dr. Dhanish Patel of Milpitas Spine Center in Milpitas, California.
Here’s what a study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics in 2010 had to say: “Sixty percent of patients with sciatica who had failed other medical management benefited from spinal manipulation to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention.”
To explain why spinal manipulation works, we have to explain some sciatica basics. Sciatica is simply a set of symptoms. It’s not the reason behind your disease. Sciatic pain typically occurs when the sciatic nerve is inflamed, compressed or irritated, which can occur for a variety of reasons. Typically, it’s a slipped or herniated disc, a misaligned pelvis, or a misaligned lower spine.
That’s where chiropractors come in. Doctors of chiropractic know that that spine is the body’s communications system. Spinal misalignments interfere with that communications system by cutting off or reducing the flow of signals between the brain and the body. Chiropractic restores the misaligned bones in the spine so that the brain and the body can once again communicate freely.
Dr. Dhanish Patel and his dedicated team of chiropractors and therapists are focused on whole body wellness. They are dedicated to giving your body the support and care it needs to heal.
