For Circulation Problems, Consult Milpitas Chiropractor

Marina Wellness Chiropractic Center

If poor circulation is a problem for you, you might benefit from chiropractic care, according to chiropractor Dr. Danish Patel of Milpitas Spine Center in Milpitas, Calif.

Decreased blood flow is dangerous and should be addressed as quickly as possible. It can damage brain cells. It can lead to stroke; kidney disease; and visual, spatial and hearing problems.

Poor posture can be a contributing factor because it gradually shifts the bones in your vertebrae out of alignment. Misalignments in the vertebrae put pressure on the nerves flowing out of the spine. That can inhibit their ability to distribute messages from the brain to the rest of your body, including your circulatory system.
Poor circulation in your legs and feet could mean that your fifth lumbar vertebra is out of alignment. The fifth lumbar nerve controls the lower legs, ankle and feet. If your vertebra is out of alignment, symptoms can include swollen ankles, cold feet, and pain or numbness in the legs and feet.

The source of poor circulation might also be from misalignment of the bones in your neck. Consider the fact that breaking your neck can cause paralysis. Although less severe than a neck fracture, a misaligned neck vertebrae can interfere with your spinal cord. You might even lose some function in the leg, ankle and foot.

A study conducted by the Center for Manual Therapy in Moscow, Russia, shows a correlation between misalignment of the neck and reduced cerebral blood flow, called hypofusion.

In that study, 45 patients with chronic neck pain, upper back pain or both were groups into three categories based on brain scans that created an image of blood flow in the brain. The mild group consisted of 14 people with normal blood flow in all eight regions of the brain. The moderate group had a 20 percent to 35 percent reduction in blood flow, while the severe group had a decrease of 30 percent to 40 percent of blood flow.

By correcting misalignments in the neck, chiropractors help to restore healthy circulation to the brain. The pressure blocking messages to and from the nerves is removed, allowing the smooth flow of messages from the brain to the nerves regarding the flow of blood in the body.
